The NHS across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight has an ambition for the future where local people are better supported to live healthier lives for longer and to offer better access to the right care, in the right place, at the right time.

We're facing significant challenges and issues that are impacting how local people receive support, care and treatment. To tackle this we want to shift towards providing more proactive and preventative care and support for local people that is person and community-centred. We want to focus more on improving outcomes for local people and their whole experience of using services, rather than individual episodes of care. We want organisations and teams to work in a more joined-up way, maximising innovation and research.

We've set out our plan for the future of NHS services in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight in our Renewed Ambition which is available to download and view below. In the short-term, we have agreed priorities across NHS partners for immediate improvement to address the current issues and challenges. These are:

  • Improving local care (including GP and dentistry services) by making it easier for people to access appointments and care in a timely way.
  • Improving urgent and emergency care by reducing the amount of people using emergency services and ensuring those who need to access care as quickly as possible.
  • Improving planned care by reducing the backlog of people waiting for operations, procedures and diagnostics.
  • Improving hospital discharge by ensuring people who are medically ready can safely return home or to another care setting in a timely way.
  • Improving mental health services through better access and transition between services.
  • Improving workforce efficiency by making sure staff are working in the most effective way.

We'll be highlighting and updating people on the progress we're making on these priorities. To make sure you get the latest updates you can sign up for news alerts on our NHS News Hampshire and Isle of Wight page.
