We are hosting an in-person Research Collaborative on 23rd January 2025.

The Research Collaborative is part of Raising Voices in Research (RViR), a project funded under the NHS England’s Accelerated Access Collaborative (REND), which aims to increase diversity of participation in health and social care research (broadly defined) in the Hampshire and Isle of Wight ICS region. The Research Collaborative brings together organisations across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to map research activities, share best practice, work together to increase participation, to enable more engagement and outreach from academics to underserved communities, and to promote RViR outputs to researchers to drive local system change to improve diversity in health and social care research.

Raising Voices in Research - Shaping the Conversation Showcase

What is Shaping the Conversation? The Raising Voices in Research partnership (Action Hampshire, Hampshire and Isle of Wight ICB, University of Winchester, University Hospital Southampton) was funded by NIHR CRN to address the issue that much research activity originates with researchers and research organisations, who set the priorities for research. This means that communities are often less likely to get involved and can be disempowered, as the research direction and leadership often belongs to the research organisations. Research can have such a big impact on health and social care services, and we believe that hearing from communities about the research they think is important is key to greater involvement. We funded 12 VCSE organisations to work with their communities to identify their research priorities, hosted a sandpit event so they could develop these further with researchers, and then designed a process for communities to have the research priorities that matter to them heard.

The Shaping the Conversation Showcase Event took place on Thursday 24th October 10:00 – 13:30 at Portsmouth Guildhall.

Throughout the event you will hear from VCSEs and researchers about their experiences of the project, the Raising Voices in Research team about next steps and opportunities, as well as guest speakers. The event will conclude with a networking lunch.
