Last week we hosted the first of our ‘Keeping You Well’ community events for people with learning disabilities or autism, and their carers and families. One event was held in Landport Community Centre in Portsmouth, while the other took place in the Riverside Centre on the Isle of Wight.
Both events hosted a number of stalls that allowed people to chat to a variety of different health professionals and community groups about how they can best stay well. This included stalls with information on annual health checks, cancer screening, exercise groups (including boxing and running), dieticians, specialist dentistry and more. The events saw a great turn out with attendees giving it very positive feedback overall.
We’d like to say a huge thank-you to all of the staff and organisations who came together to make these events such a success. They are just the first in a series of such events tailored to people with learning disabilities and autism that will be taking place across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight in the coming months.
As soon as the exact venues and dates are confirmed, we will publicise them on our social media channels and through a variety of other routes, so stay tuned for more information.
