Dr Michele Legg, Island GP and Clinical Director for the Isle of Wight on the Hampshire, Southampton and Isle of Wight Clinical Commissioning Group said:
“In recent days, like in other parts of the country, we have seen a rise in COVID infections on the Isle of Wight which is impacting health services. This includes staff becoming unwell but also patients presenting at GP surgeries with symptoms.
“Many of our GP practices have taken the decision to reintroduce mask wearing alongside a plan to try to limit the spread of infection and protect services.
“We urge patients and the community to support this decision and ensure they follow guidance on site to ensure we can safeguard the island health system.
“We would also remind people not to present at GP surgeries if they have symptoms of a respiratory infection, such as COVID-19.
“Thank you for your support.”
Guidance on COVID-19

- Get vaccinated.
- Let fresh air in if meeting others indoors.
- Practise good hygiene:
- wash your hands
- cover your coughs and sneezes
- clean your surroundings frequently
- Wear a face covering or a face mask.
There is further guidance available online on steps you can take to protect other people if you are unwell with symptoms of a respiratory infection, including COVID-19.
