More than 50 students from five colleges across Hampshire attended a one-of-a-kind event at Taunton’s College in Southampton to meet local allied health professionals (AHPs) and learn more about what careers are available.
In practical, hands-on sessions, students and other attendees had the chance to find out more about the variety of different roles available and have a go at tasks designed to help them see if any might be right for them.
At the event, which took place on Tuesday 24 September 2024, 39 students expressed an interest either in a placement with an allied health professional or in an allied health professional support worker role – so a great success!
Allied health professions include:
- Art, drama and music therapists
- Dieticians
- Physiotherapists
- Paramedics
- Radiographers
- Speech therapists
- Occupational therapists
- Prosthetists and orthotists
- Podiatrists
- Orthoptists
Pieter Joubert, AHP Workforce Lead at NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight said: “It was great to see everyone working together across NHS Trusts, local authorities and higher education institutions, to deliver a fantastic event promoting and celebrating all the amazing careers available as an allied health professional in Hampshire and Isle of Wight.”
The event was also a great opportunity for allied health professionals and other staff across the system to network and discuss new ways they can attract more people to allied health professional roles in Hampshire and Isle of Wight.
Those who attended were students from Andover College, Queen Mary’s College in Basingstoke, Richard Taunton Sixth Form College, Itchen Sixth Form College and Havant & South Downs College.
