Thinking of coming back to your profession?

If you have taken a career break from the NHS, social care, education, independent or charity sector, returning to practice is easier than you think.

Across Hampshire and Isle of Wight (HIOW), our NHS Trusts and Primary Care are committed to providing a personalised approach to support you to return to the practice; and hopefully go on to find a local job that is right for you.

If you require any additional support to access the event, please email hsiccg.workforcecell.hiow@nhs.net to discuss your needs.

There are now two ways to return to the register, either through a university-based return to practice course or the new test of competence route.

The Health Education England website has a wealth of information about the return to practice schemes.

Pharmacy

The GPhC website has a wealth of information about re-joining the register depending on whether you have been away from the register for more or less than 12 months.

Specific information for Pharmacists can be accessed via the Royal Pharmaceutical Society website.

Specific information for Pharmacy Technicians can be accessed via the Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK website

What will happen at the drop-in event?

At the event, you will be greeted, asked to complete a short form and directed to a member of staff from your preferred locality and profession.

If you have an up-to-date CV, please bring it along to the event.

You will then have a chance to meet with a variety of local organisations (including NHS Trusts, Local Authority, and Primary Care) to find out more about their return to practice opportunities, their continued professional development offers and their current vacancies. You will be able to use this information to help make an informed decision about your preferred route to return.

Staff will be able to talk through the routes for return in more detail to decide which best suites you.

Allied Health Professionals

If you wish to progress your return to practice journey you can register with the AHP Faculty at the event, and we will work with you to get your supervised placement set up.

For the first 20 returning AHPs to sign up at the event, in addition to the support you will receive within your host organisation, you will also be able to sign up for a fully funded programme of facilitated action learning sets (ALS) through a virtual platform. The purpose of the action learning will be to connect with other AHPs across HIOW who are also returning to practice.

Action learning is a method of collaborative learning where a small group of learners (an ‘action learning set’) meets regularly to reflect on real work issues. The action learning set will help group members make changes to their current or future roles, or tackle joint projects, often working across functions for the benefit of the organisation as a whole.

We are delighted to be working with Hart Ridge Consulting Ltd for the ALS programme.

 Nursing and Midwifery

There will be an opportunity to meet University leads to gain information about the course but also talk to clinical education staff who can explain the new test of competence route.

There may be the option to gain temporary employment in some of the Trusts to undertake some clinical work as well as some face to face training and preparation to take the test of competence.

Pharmacy

If you wish to progress your return to practice journey you can register with the Pharmacy Workforce lead at the event, and we will work with you to get your supervised placement set up.
