The Medicines Optimisation Incentive Scheme is an enabler for practices to improve the safe, high quality and cost-effective use of medicines. This includes engagement and communication between and within GP practices and improving prescribing, particularly in the priority area of prescribing value. Other priorities include medicines safety, cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, and antimicrobial stewardship.
GP practices are asked to agree, implement, and achieve a practice-specific annual medicines optimisation action plan, based on the ICB’s medicines prescribing savings plan, national priorities and which takes account of the practice’s priorities and opportunities for quality improvement and savings. The medicines optimisation team support practices in developing and implementing their plan.
Supporting documents, if not available here, can be obtained by contacting your medicines optimisation pharmacist or technician.
